This late Georgian gentleman's wardrobe dates to 1800 and is styled in mahogany with a warm brown colour. The upper section features a pair of panelled doors embellished with intricate marquetry inlay and ebony stringing, sitting above a lower base of two short drawers over two long graduated drawers. The piece stands on bracket feet and is accented with brass swan-neck bail handles and chequered banding. Measuring 204.5 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 56 cm deep, this multi-section wardrobe provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining a refined profile. Suitable for placement in a principal bedroom or dressing room, it accommodates hanging garments alongside folded clothing in the lower drawer compartments, combining traditional craftsmanship with functional utility for daily use in a contemporary residence.

A Georgian gentlemans wardrobe is a piece of storage furniture produced during the reign of Kings George I through George IV (17141830). Often constructed as a two-part press with upper cupboard doors and lower drawers, it was originally designed to house folded clothes, linens, and personal attire.

Primary woods for Georgian wardrobes include imported West Indian mahogany, native oak for drawer linings, and softwood or pine for secondary framing. High-grade examples feature decorative wood inlays such as satinwood, boxwood, or rosewood, accompanied by brass drawer handles and escutcheons.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed timber surfaces, and natural wear around handles and bases. Look for original brass hardware, two-part construction with a removable cornice, and period-correct marquetry or stringing inlays rather than modern printed veneer.

A Georgian mahogany wardrobe serves as a focal point in traditional or eclectic modern spaces. It functions effectively as primary bedroom clothing storage, a hallway coat cupboard, or a concealed entertainment cabinet in a living space.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or wood fading.
