Description

A superb marble‑topped French commode of transitional Louis XVI to Empire design, measuring 128 cm wide × 59 cm deep × 84 cm high. Crafted in walnut and fruitwood with beautifully patinated surfaces, the piece features outset front corners, quarter‑round pilasters, and three full‑width drawers with elegant brass inlay and original brass handles. The drawers are framed by fine crossbanding and outlined with delicate brass stringing, while the commode stands on shaped feet that lend a light, architectural stance.

The grey‑veined marble top is original and complements the warm tone of the timber. The commode’s proportions and refined detailing reflect the late 18th‑century Parisian taste for neoclassical symmetry and understated luxury.

A beautifully patinated example, showing depth of colour and surface character consistent with age and careful preservation.
