Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Charles X chest of drawers is constructed from warm brown figured walnut with oak linings and features a dark mid grey fossilised marble top. The piece includes three lower drawers with round metal pulls and key escutcheons, set beneath a top drawer and flanked by engaged architectural pilaster columns with turned elements at the base. Standing on shaped front legs and square rear feet, the commode displays visible wood grain patterns and antique metal hardware throughout its wooden structure. Measuring 94 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, this nineteenth-century chest works well as a storage unit in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The flat marble surface provides a practical display area for lamps, decorative objects, or everyday items, while the drawers offer enclosed storage space to keep rooms organised.

FAQs

Produced during the reign of King Charles X from 1824 to 1830, this style features neoclassical architectural forms, clean lines, highly figured timber veneers, and contrasting dark marble tops.

19th-century French commodes frequently incorporated high-grade solid native woods or veneers such as walnut, oak, and cherry, topped with thick fitted marble slabs and accented with turned pilasters or metal pulls.

Authentic Charles X commodes feature hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer linings, original marble tops with hand-chiselled undersides, full-depth frieze drawers, and structural pilaster columns on the side stiles.

A French walnut commode serves as a focal point in an entry hall or bedroom, anchored by a large wall mirror above and balanced with ceramic vessels or contemporary table lamps.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood grain, and clean the marble top using a neutral-pH cleaner, avoiding acidic solutions that cause etching.
