Description

A striking original Art Deco sculpture “Le Bendeur” by Jean de Roncourt, one of the notable French sculptors of the Art Deco period, signed to the marble base.

Depicting a powerful and athletic male figure bending a large metal bar, captured in a dynamic pose with beautifully modelled musculature and a strong sense of movement.

Cast in patinated spelter and mounted on a substantial polished black marble base.

“Le Bendeur” is one of de Roncourt’s best-known and most recognisable Art Deco models, with the subject reflecting the period’s fascination with athleticism, strength and the modern male form.

An impressive large-scale example, with excellent sculptural detail and a particularly strong presence.

In very good antique condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period.
