CKB Ltd Emporium & Collectables has dated this Persian Qajar Brass Metalware to the 1880s.

The principal piece is of domed bell form, surmounted by a tall ribbed bud finial and extensively hand engraved with floral panels, circular pierced medallions and repeating ornamental borders. The openwork decoration would originally have allowed fragrant incense smoke to escape from the burner beneath.

The heavily darkened and encrusted interior is consistent with historic use over a heat or incense source. Its form and decoration are characteristic of Persian metalwork of the Qajar period and we believe this piece dates to the latter part of the 19th century.

Also included are three dark-patinated metal vessel lids or fittings, two decorated with applied leaf and floral motifs in contrasting metal, together with an embossed copper-alloy cylindrical fragment decorated with bold scrolling ornament.

These additional pieces appear broadly South Asian / Himalayan / Indo-Persian in character and are likely late 19th to early 20th century.
The collection is offered as found. All pieces are incomplete components or fragments. There are substantial losses to the applied decoration of one lid, wear and oxidation throughout, dents and distortion to the brass cover, and considerable damage and losses around the upper edge of the repoussé copper-alloy piece.

Despite their condition, this is an atmospheric and highly decorative group of genuine old metalwork displaying hand engraving, piercing, repoussé work, applied decoration and extensive natural patination.
Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
