A particularly elegant 19th century French Lit Bateau, of wonderfully sculptural form, distinguished by its dramatic twin scroll ends and richly carved mahogany frame.

The sweeping upholstered ends curve gracefully outwards in the classic bateau manner, while the exposed timber frame is enhanced with finely carved scrolling acanthus decoration. Raised on substantial turned legs with castors, the piece has an impressive presence whilst retaining an attractive lightness of line.

Recently upholstered in a striking blue silk damask, with a generously proportioned loose seat cushion and matching piping, the vibrant fabric provides a superb contrast against the warm, richly patinated mahogany.

Originally conceived as a daybed, this handsome piece would work equally well today as a window seat, hall or drawing-room daybed, or an occasional sofa, and would make a wonderful statement piece in either a traditional or more contemporary interior.
