An antique Minton dessert plate, handpainted with flowers against a cobalt blue border.. There is a date mark to the rear for 1855.

Excellent condition; no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a small firing flaw, original to manufacture, at the rim. Gilt and pattern are in good order.

Can be shipped safely worldwide.

This Victorian cabinet plate is made from white porcelain with a vibrant cobalt blue border and rich gilding. Minton was a prominent English ceramics manufacturer founded by Thomas Minton in 1793 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The company became world-renowned during the Victorian era for its high-quality bone china, intricate hand-painting, and fine gilding techniques.

Fine bone china plates were crafted from a mixture of bone ash, china stone, and kaolin before undergoing a primary firing. Artisans then applied intricate hand-painted enamel botanical scenes and gilded scrollwork using liquid gold, followed by subsequent lower-temperature firings to fix the decoration.

Authentic Minton pieces typically feature factory marks on the underside, including printed or impressed globe or Ermine marks, along with impressed date cyphers.
