Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian furniture refers to pieces crafted during the reigns of King George I through King George IV (17141830). The era is defined by classical proportions, symmetry, fine cabinetry techniques, and the widespread use of high-grade Cuban and West Indian mahogany.

Primary woods were almost exclusively solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, prized for their rich colour and grain figures like flame or fiddleback. Secondary woods for drawer linings typically included oak or pine, accompanied by brass cast handles and crossbanded boxwood or satinwood inlays.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary timber behind drawer fronts, and signs of historical hand-planing on unseen rear surfaces. Original brassware usually leaves specific oxidisation marks or previous fitting holes visible on the reverse of timber drawers.

A classic mahogany sideboard works well as a focal piece in a contemporary dining space or hallway. Contrast the deep wood tone with neutral plaster walls, contemporary artwork hung above, and modern ceramic or glass accessories displayed on the top surface.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish two to three times a year to protect the timber patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or fading of the natural grain colour.
