Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed during the early twentieth century, hall wardrobes were designed as compact storage solutions for coats, hats, and accessories in narrow entrance corridors. They frequently drew design inspiration from seventeenth-century Jacobean and Arts and Crafts styles, featuring decorative carvings and compact footprints.

These pieces were primarily crafted from solid oak and oak veneers, featuring traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved friezes, and panelled doors. The timber was frequently finished with dark stains and wax polishes to emulate older historical periods.

Authentic pieces typically display geometric moulding, carved guilloche or rosette motifs, brass or iron hardware, and secondary timbers like pine or plywood used for backboards. Evidence of machine-assisted joinery paired with hand-finished carved details is characteristic of this era.

Position the hall wardrobe in an entryway or boot room to provide hidden storage for outerwear while adding architectural weight. Pair the dark timber tone with neutral wall paint and modern brass lighting to create a balanced contrast.

Keep the timber clean by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placing the item near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and finish cracking.
