Gents 1950s/60s Bucherer Automatic Wrist Watch

1940 - 1960
Description

Gents 1950s/60s Bucherer automatic wrist watch.

The watch has a good quality 25-jewel (2 adjustments) automatic movement, an ETA calibre 2452, which is working nicely.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in lovely condition. The screw-on case back states that the watch is water resistant but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens looks good to the naked eye, a couple of small marks if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe.

The dial is signed Bucherer. It is in its original finish with original hands, centre seconds hand and a date display (an early form of quickset where the date is initially set by turning the hands backwards and forwards between 12 midnight and 8.30pm).

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bucherer is a Swiss horological manufacturer established in Lucerne in 1888. During the 1950s and 1960s, automatic mechanical movements became central to dress watch design, utilising an internal rotor to wind the mainspring via wrist movement.

Timepieces from this period feature stainless steel or gold-plated cases, acrylic crystals, metallic champagne or silvered dials, and internal mechanical movements incorporating jewel bearings to reduce component friction.

Authentic period watches display precise typography on the dial face, maker markings on the crown, reference and serial numbers stamped on the case interior or case back, and correctly signed internal movements.

A classic mid-century dress watch featuring a neutral dial and leather strap functions as a versatile accessory, suitable for modern formal attire, tailored suits, or smart-casual wear.

Mechanical watches require servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years to refresh internal lubricants. They should be protected from water exposure, extreme impact, and strong magnetic fields.
