Brief Description:

This is a wonderful and rare matching pair of original late 19th-century Japanese Meiji-period Oil Portrait Miniatures, beautifully painted on reverse glass.

Each exquisite portrait depicts an elegantly dressed Japanese lady wearing an elaborate traditional hairstyle and decorative headpiece, rendered with particularly fine attention to detail.

Both paintings remain mounted within their original oval Japanese rosewood frames, which have developed a lovely rich colour and patina with age.

Dating to the Meiji period (1868–1912), the pair are wonderfully decorative examples of Japanese portraiture from the late 19th century.

A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find matching pair that display beautifully together and would make a fabulous addition to any collection of Japanese or Oriental works of art.
