Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Oyster veneering is a decorative cabinetmaking technique developed in the late 17th century where thin cross-sections of tree branches or small trunks are laid together to create circular, oyster-shell-like patterns.

These pieces were typically constructed with a solid softwood or oak carcass veneered in woods such as walnut, laburnum, or olivewood, fitted with brass drop handles, brass escutcheons, and supported on turned bun feet.

Genuine period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, thick hand-sawn veneers, period-correct brass hardware with original fixing marks, and natural age-related shrinkage or patination.

Position the chest as a focal statement piece in an entryway or living room, paired with minimal contemporary art above it or balanced alongside warm neutral textiles to highlight the intricate wood grain.

Keep the piece in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight or radiators to prevent veneer lifting, and wax periodically with a high-quality beeswax polish using a soft microfibre cloth.
