Gorgeous and Nicely Detailed All Iron Long Double No End Bed

19th century
For Sale by Bedsteads
Description

*Reduced by 20% to reflect sale on our own website*

A lovely double bed here with very nice shaping on the head end. Sometimes referred to as a gentleman’s length as the rails accommodate a longer length double mattress so a perfect choice for those who want a double size, but need more length to accommodate a taller person. We can adapt the siderails to shorten to a standard length double if required. Do enquire for details.

A cross between a ‘classic straight rail’ style and a ‘three hoop’ style, so most unusual and attractive indeed. The castings and clamps are fabulously detailed and have been highlighted in gold.

Fully restored to be sturdy, practical and beautiful. Whole frame cleaned, restored and tested for durability. All joints checked for secure fit. Shot blasted and primed prior to hand paint finish in Little Greene’s Jack Black, and castings highlighted in Gilt Varnish - Chantilly Gold. Whole bed waxed over to protect and give a soft sheen. All of our beds can be re-painted in any colour of your choosing. Please contact us for more information/quotation.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron bedsteads are metal sleeping frames manufactured primarily during the mid-to-late 19th century, featuring cast or wrought iron tubular frames often embellished with poured iron or brass decorative joints and decorative scrollwork.

Traditional construction combined heavy cast iron for structural joints and ornamental castings with wrought iron tubing for the main framework, frequently accented with spun or cast brass details.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast-iron corner joints known as chill casts, dovetail slot fittings where side rails connect to the head and foot ends, and slight irregularities inherent to hand-poured metals.

Pair the dark metal silhouette with crisp white linens or warm textured textiles to create modern visual contrast while maintaining a classic aesthetic.

Keep the frame free from moisture to prevent oxidisation, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax to protect the painted finish and brass fittings.
