Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A foot stove was a portable heating device widely used in northern Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Filled with glowing embers or an earthenware pot of charcoal, it provided localized warmth during long church services, carriage journeys, or inside unheated domestic rooms.

Traditional foot stoves were predominantly crafted from sheet brass, copper, or hardwood lined with tin. Metal examples frequently featured pierced lids for ventilation and heat release, along with repousse or embossed decorative panels and iron carrying handles.

Authentic 18th-century brass pieces exhibit hand-hammered repousse work, irregular solder joints, and natural surface wear around friction points. Genuine period examples often display hand-stamped date marks, irregular perforations, and uneven oxidisation inside unpolished crevices.

These decorative metal objects serve as ideal accent pieces on a fireplace hearth, within an open bookshelf, or atop a console table. Their detailed metalwork and warm brass tones add texture and historical interest to modern and traditional interior settings.

Preserve the natural patina by avoiding harsh abrasive cleansers or chemical polishes. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, and apply a thin layer of neutral microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect the metal surface against moisture and oxidisation.
