Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian aneroid barometer combines a turned mahogany case with a polished brass bezel and a glass face. The warm brown timber surround features circular ring turned mouldings, while the gold coloured brass dial displays engraved weather predictions alongside the maker inscription for R & J Beck, 68 Cornhill, London. A brass hanging loop secures the top of the circular body, and a blued steel pointer indicates atmospheric pressure alongside an adjustable reading marker. The instrument measures 21.5 cm high, 21.5 cm wide, and 5.5 cm deep. Display this piece on a narrow wall space in a study, hallway, or gentleman's library for daily atmospheric readings.

FAQs

Invented in the 19th century, an aneroid barometer measures atmospheric pressure using a sealed, flexible metal capsule that expands or contracts with air pressure changes, moving a dial pointer across a calibrated face.

Victorian aneroid barometers typically combine turned timber surroundssuch as mahogany, walnut, or oakwith brass bezels, protective glass covers, and engraved brass or silvered metal dial faces.

Authentic pieces frequently feature maker engravings from historic scientific instrument makers, hand-engraved atmospheric terminology, period brass fittings, and age-consistent oxidation on metal dial components.

Position the barometer on a narrow wall space, integrate it into a gallery wall, or hang it above a hall console table alongside framed architectural prints and warm timber furnishings.

Dust the wooden surround with a dry microfibre cloth, clean the glass with a mild glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth, and avoid abrasive polishes on lacquered or silvered metal surfaces.
