Antique Edwardian Mahogany Chest of Drawers

1900 - 1920
Description

A smart and extremely well made antique Edwardian mahogany chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from the 1900-1910 period.

It is in the Georgian revival style, with a serpentine shaped front and lovely splayed bracket feet. The top is cross banded, this has a useful pull out slide shelf that slides out from under the top. The drawers are deep and generous, they run smoothly and have brass handles.

We have had this stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is some minor wear and patina remaining beneath the polish here and there, commensurate for age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian mahogany furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, frequently revived 18th-century styles including Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton. It features lightened proportions, crossbanded wood borders, and mahogany veneers.

These pieces typically incorporate solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over secondary pine or oak frames. Construction includes hand-cut dovetail joints, crossbanded drawer fronts, and cast brass handles.

Look for dovetailing inside the drawer construction, period-appropriate brass drop handles, and evidence of hand-finishing alongside early machine cutting. Authentic examples frequently feature pull-out brushing slides and inlaid crossbanding.

Position the piece as focal storage in a hallway or bedroom, pairing warm wood tones with neutral wall paint. Modern ceramics, minimalist lamps, or contemporary framed prints placed on the top surface create a balance between traditional and modern elements.

Keep the unit away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking or discolouration. Dust regularly with a lint-free cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice per year to protect the timber surface.
