Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by a move towards lighter, cleaner designs compared to heavy Victorian styles. Pieces often feature high-quality hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, simple geometric forms, and restrained decorative elements like cast brass backplates and handles.

Chests of drawers from the Edwardian era were typically constructed using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Drawers often featured solid pine or oak secondary timber linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and decorative brass drop handles with ornate backplates.

Authentic Edwardian pieces usually demonstrate hand-cut or early machine-cut dovetail jointing inside the drawers, cast brass hardware, and natural wood grain variations. Looking at the drawer base and back panels can reveal original saw marks and historic patination along the wood surfaces.

An Edwardian oak chest of drawers works well in contemporary spaces by providing a grounded, natural wood contrast. Pair it with minimalist lighting, neutral wall shades, and contemporary ceramics atop the chest to create a balanced blend of traditional craft and modern styling.

Maintain solid oak furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year to nourish the wood grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent warping, cracking, or timber fading.
