Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eight-piece Edwardian bedroom suite in the Italian manner by Waring & Gillows includes a monumental mirror door wardrobe, bedstead, pair of bedside cabinets, pair of mirror-back dressing tables, and two throne chairs. Fashioned from warm brown walnut and satinwood, the pieces are decorated with mother-of-pearl and metal inlay, carved figural heads and grotesque masks in relief, oval medallions depicting classical figures, broken pediments, and urn finials, all supported by turtle feet. The suite shows visible surface wear and aged fabric on the chair seats in its current unrestored condition. The wardrobe stands 280 cm high, 124 cm wide, and 67 cm deep, with individual dimensions varying across the remaining pieces. This grand suite suits a large traditional master bedroom in a country house, providing coordinated storage, seating, and dressing surfaces for a primary sleeping quarter.

FAQs

A Waring & Gillow bedroom suite comprises a coordinated set of bedroom furniture produced by the renowned British cabinetmaking firm formed by the merger of Waring and Gillows in 1897. These suites typically feature superior craftsmanship, classical proportions, and matching architectural motifs across all individual pieces.

Period bedroom suites were constructed using high-grade timbers such as walnut, mahogany, and satinwood. Construction techniques involved hand-cut dovetail joints, solid frame-and-panel doors, bevelled glass mirrors, and carved or marquetry accents.

Authentic pieces frequently bear a stamped makers mark or brass nameplate reading Waring & Gillow Ltd inside drawers or on the rear of panels, paired with exceptionally smooth drawer runners, high-grade timber veneers, and precise timber joinery.

Incorporate key architectural pieces, such as the bedstead or mirrored wardrobe, against neutral or deep-toned walls to anchor the room. Combining warm historic timber tones with crisp contemporary linens and modern lighting creates a balanced scheme.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Avoid chemical sprays, direct heat sources, and significant atmospheric moisture variations to protect the wood and finish.
