This Victorian folk art framed textile depicts a stylised tiger wandering through a landscape setting beneath a tree with a psychedelic quality. Originating from England around 1870, the piece measures 74 cm in height and 77.5 cm in width, and uses wool and canvas housed inside its original period wooden frame with a dark polished finish and visible hanging rings. The naive needlepoint execution employs a palette of warm brown, cream, black, and blue tones, creating a striking texture within the square panel. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library or above a sideboard in a living space, the textile introduces a bold focal point to a room. The dark moulded wooden frame shows surface wear including scuffs and scratches from age, while the interior embroidery displays distinct stitchwork patterns across the tiger, ground, and foliage motifs.

Victorian woolwork, often referred to as Berlin woolwork, became popular in the nineteenth century and involved stitching dyed wool yarns onto canvas backings. These pieces frequently featured flora, fauna, religious scenes, or exotic animals framed for decorative wall display.

Traditional needlework pictures were crafted using wool, silk, or cotton threads worked over a stiffened canvas ground. Frames were typically constructed from polished mahogany, rosewood, or stained pine, often fitted with protective front glass.

Authentic pieces display natural age-related fading to thread colours on the front compared to the back, irregularity in hand-stitched tension, and period-appropriate framing techniques such as paper backing tape or hand-cut square nails.

Framed textiles add textural depth to gallery walls, dark-painted study interiors, or modern minimalist spaces needing organic warm tones. Placing them above wood sideboards or console tables creates a balanced focal point.

Keep textile art out of direct sunlight to prevent fibre degradation and colour fading. Ensure the piece is mounted using acid-free materials behind UV-filtering glass and maintained in a stable humidity environment.
