Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian boot scraper is a utilitarian threshold device crafted from cast iron, designed to remove mud and soil from footwear prior to entering a residence. Popularised in the nineteenth century alongside expanding urban paved roads, these items ranged from simple embedded wall blades to elaborate freestanding designs featuring integrated drip trays.

Traditional antique boot scrapers were predominantly manufactured using heavy cast iron or wrought iron to withstand constant wear and outdoor weather conditions. Cast iron permitted foundry makers to produce intricate scrollwork ornamentation and integrated catch trays designed to contain discarded dirt.

Authentic Victorian examples exhibit characteristic mould seam lines from sand-casting methods, well-defined relief ornamentation, and substantial weight proportionate to solid iron. Original pieces generally display signs of historical surface oxidation, minor casting variations, and operational wear along the upper scraping edge.

An antique boot scraper serves as a practical decorative focal point positioned beside an entrance door, within a boot room, or upon a sheltered porch. It introduces a tactile historical accent when paired with natural stone flagstones, timber benches, or traditional entryway fittings.

Maintenance involves brushing away dry debris with a soft bristle brush and applying a thin layer of microcrystalline wax or light oil to protect against moisture-induced corrosion. When kept outdoors, ensuring that standing water does not pool prolonged within the tray base helps prevent rust.
