Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Green Man is an ancient motif depicting a human face emerging from or surrounded by foliage, often spouting vines or leaves from the mouth. Popularised during the medieval and Renaissance eras, these carvings symbolised rebirth, nature, and the cycle of growth, frequently appearing on church architecture, wainscoting, and domestic furniture.

16th-century relief panels were predominantly hand-carved from solid European oak due to its durability and dense grain. Craftsmen used hand gouges, chisels, and mallets to create deep relief compositions, often incorporating mortise and tenon framing to integrate the panels into larger architectural structures or joinery.

Authentic period panels feature uneven hand-tool marks, gouge lines, and natural timber shrinkage across the grain over time. Original pieces display a dark, oxidized patina in deep crevices, along with irregular dimensions and signs of historical joinery attachment such as peg holes or edge rebates.

Vertical carved panels can be mounted directly onto walls as sculptural art, placed within alcoves, or integrated into custom contemporary cabinetry and panelling. The dark wood tone and intricate relief work provide structural texture and contrast against neutral walls or minimalist settings.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a soft, dry natural-bristle brush to clear intricate carved recesses. Periodically apply a thin layer of high-quality clear beeswax paste, buffing gently with a microfibre cloth, and keep the object away from direct heat sources and extreme moisture fluctuations.
