Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early nineteenth-century French provincial kitchen dresser and bookcase is made from walnut with a warm brown finish and glass panes. The piece stands 294 cm high, 328 cm wide, and 70 cm deep, and splits into numerous sections, with the top section measuring 203 cm in height and the bottom section measuring 92 cm in height. The upper structure comprises six glazed doors beneath an intricate carved scrollwork frieze, separated by fluted pilasters. The base contains six solid panelled cupboard doors with small keyhole escutcheons, set beneath a rope-twist moulding. In a contemporary home, this large storage cabinet serves as a grand display unit in a spacious kitchen, dining room, or living area. The combination of open glass shelving above and concealed lower storage accommodates books, crockery, or decorative items, bringing traditional French chateau style to interior spaces.

FAQs

A French walnut glazed dresser bookcase is a traditional multi-tiered storage unit featuring glass-fronted upper doors for display and solid panelled lower cupboards for concealed storage. Originating in 18th and 19th-century France, these substantial pieces were crafted for dining rooms, kitchens, and private libraries.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid European walnut and figured walnut veneers, known for dense grain and rich tone. Traditional joinery includes hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, hand-blown glass panes, and intricate wood carving along the frieze and pilasters.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs such as acanthus leaves or carved moulding, period-correct brass or iron locks, hand-planed backboards, and irregular hand-cut glass panes. The natural age patina on the walnut timber and slight irregularities in cabinet doors also indicate age.

A large walnut cabinet serves as an architectural anchor in a dining room, living area, or expansive hallway. Decorate the upper glazed shelves with a curated mix of neutral ceramics, bound books, and glassware, leaving negative space to highlight the timber backboard.

Maintain French polished or wax-finished walnut by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage or lacquer deterioration.
