The script in a literate educated hand.
This is almost certainly a London madepiece and, given its design and quality, from a top cabinet maker and the design of the cabinet, quality of the timbers and design of Chinese style handles are all in the manner of Thomas Chippendale Senior.
The chest with a wide splayed ogee cornice over Gothic design blind fretwork frieze above three short drawers over six long graduated drawers all with beautifully grained solid mahogany fronts of excellent colour. All of the drawers run smoothly with solid oak original linings in excellent strong and clean condition and all with very well executed fine dovetails.
Of a compact and usable size, not too tall and so the top drawers are easy to reach and use.
The chest sits level and firm on its original tall shaped bracket feet.
Original backboards also.
In excellent original and entirely usable condition.
From a private West country estate, a really heavy and very well made Georgian chest on chest and a very rarely found piece of dated Georgian furniture.
Strongly recommended.
Dimensions are:
71.25 inches tall, 43.25 inches wide and 20.75 inches deep. Lower case is 34.5 inches tall from floor.
Drawer heights from top down are: top three short drawers 4.25 inches, second drawer 5.25 inches, third 7 inches and fourth drawer 8 inches. Fifth is 5 inches, sixth is 6.75 inches and bottom drawer in 8.25 inches.
The chest separates into two sections for transport.
