Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on chest, also referred to as a tallboy, is an 18th-century furniture form comprising two stacked chests of drawers designed to provide extensive vertical storage while minimizing floor space usage.

Georgian examples were predominantly crafted from solid and veneered mahogany or walnut, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck or bail handles.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn drawer bottoms, uneven dovetail joints, original keyholes with brass escutcheons, period-appropriate bracket feet, and signs of natural oxidisation on raw timber surfaces.

Place the piece as a focal point against neutral walls in a bedroom or hallway, pairing the rich mahogany tones with modern lighting or contemporary artwork to create balanced visual contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking.
