ANTIQUE #SA1221239

Antique Turkmen Carpet, Kizyl Ayak Tribe, Turkmenistan, Central Asia.

£3,750    $5,026    €4,393
Just in from a private collection, this beautiful small carpet was made by Kizyl Ayak Turkmen in Turkmenistan during the third quarter 19th century.

The carpet, which comprises three vertical columns of Kizyl Ayak ''guls'' (tribal crests) and eleven guls in each column, is surrounded by a stylised ''tree'' main border. It is interesting to note that within each gul, there appears to show two ''H'' symbols in each of the four compartments which we know to represent animal heads. But the heads are missing in all but two guls, seen in one of the detail images.

The carpet is in very good overall condition and is complete with its plain-weave elems both ends.

Size: 2.13 x 1.30m (7'' 0'' x 4'' 3'').

Viewing by appointment only.
