Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century European genre painting focuses on depicting scenes from everyday life, narrative moments, and detailed studies of specific figures, executed with refined realism and painterly technique.

These artworks typically consist of oil pigments applied to stretched canvas or wood panels, housed within heavily carved timber frames finished with plaster, gesso, and hand-applied gold leaf.

Authentic pieces generally display age-appropriate craquelure across the paint layer, natural oxidisation on the reverse of the canvas, and gentle wear along the edges of the period giltwood frame.

Integrate classical artwork into contemporary spaces by positioning it against a neutral or dark feature wall, allowing the rich pigment tones and carved frame to act as a focal anchor.

Dust the frame and canvas surface gently using a soft, dry brush, keeping the painting away from direct heat sources, excessive moisture, and direct sunlight.
