Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in popularity during the nineteenth century, country house daybeds and chaise longues were designed for informal relaxation in private sitting rooms, drawing rooms, or boudoirs. They typically feature an elongated padded seat combined with an inclined backrest and asymmetrical arm support.

Authentic nineteenth-century daybeds were constructed using solid timber frames, such as beech or oak, fitted with hand-tied steel coil springs, natural horsehair padding, and heavy canvas or calico lining. The visible legs were often turned from hardwood and fitted with brass castors.

Examine the underside frame for hand-hewn woodwork, traditional webbing, and coil springs secured with jute twine. Authentic period pieces generally feature turned or carved legs attached with wood joinery rather than modern screws, often accompanied by original stamped brass castors.

Positioning a daybed beneath a window or along a wide alcove creates a functional reading nook while preserving open floor space. Re-upholstering the piece in neutral linen or textured wool bridges classic antique proportions with contemporary interior palettes.

Vacuum the upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment to prevent dust build-up within the fibres. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to protect the wood frame from warping and to prevent fabric degradation.
