Description

William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.

"Thornton-le-Dale" is a fine large example. An oil on canvas measuring 20"x 30" it is in the original gilt frame giving an overall size of 32"x 42". It is signed lower right and dated (18)91
