This English Arts and Crafts period coal bin and log bucket, dating from around 1900, takes a cylindrical form in copper-plated metal. The piece includes a lift-up lid with a substantial central handle, a removable inner metal liner, decorative horizontal bands, four circular drop-ring handles mounted on tapering uprights, and four square pad feet. The hand-hammered surface displays a polished copper finish with varied reddish and brassy tones throughout. The overall structure measures 40 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. In a modern interior, this item suits placement beside a fireplace hearth to store coal or logs, or alternatively serves as a container for indoor house plants. The home-ready condition allows for immediate placement in living rooms, studies, or reception spaces within a traditional or eclectic home setting.

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Arts and Crafts copper coal bins feature hand-worked metalwork, simple geometric forms, visible structural fittings, and decorative surface hammering that highlights honest craftsmanship.

These vessels were primarily constructed from sheet copper with hand-hammered textures, brass structural bands or handles, and internal removable liners made from galvanized iron or zinc to protect the decorative outer casing.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-riveted joins, subtle irregularities in the planished copper surface, original metal liners showing signs of carbon usage, and natural patination across brass and copper components.

Position the vessel alongside a fireplace hearth to store firewood, kindling, or rolled newspapers, or utilize it as a decorative planter for large indoor foliage in living spaces.

Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive pads that remove the developed historical patina, and apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax for protection.
