Early 18th Century Inlaid Walnut Chest Of Drawers

£5,250    $7,113    €6,185
An early 18th century English walnut chest of drawers, the moulded top with geometric inlay enclosing a quartered central oval above two short and three long crossbanded drawers and with further geometric inlaid decoration, the book matched sides with crossbanded border, the whole raised on well shaped bracket feet. While this chest of drawers has many hallmarks of a William and Mary piece dating from C.1690, we would describe this example as being ''transitional'' as it displays certain features that became after the turn of the century, for example, the bun feet synonymous with the William and Mary period and Dutch influence have been updated with the newer style of bracket feet which shows how fashions developed over short timeframes. This is a nice, small size and would work equally well in a living space or a bedroom. England. C.1705
