African Benin Double Ended Janus Form Bronze Statue, C1920

Description

Fine early 20th century Benin bronze statue,c1920. The bronze is well cast in the traditional lost wax method and is heavy at 1kg. It takes the form of a 2 headed/double ended figure. In traditional EDO and West African cultures these conjoined or opposing figures symbolize spiritual guardianship and all seeing wisdom and are powerful ceremonial pieces. Overall condition is very good and the bronze has taken on good colour/patina.
