Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This Louis XV style walnut bed dates from around 1900 and displays a warm brown finish. The French Rococo Revival design includes a contoured headboard and a low footboard, both shaped with serpentine top rails and decorated with floral relief carving and central cartouche cresting. The framework stands on cabriole legs at the footboard, showing rich wood grain across the curved wooden panels. The bed is adapted with replacement side rails to hold a modern UK king-size mattress. In a home today, the bed serves as the main sleeping furniture in a bedroom, pairing with contemporary or traditional interior schemes. Two pillows rest against the headboard, alongside a white coverlet draped over the frame. The furniture measures 200 cm in length, 150 cm in width, and 140 cm in height, accommodating everyday sleeping requirements while maintaining a decorative antique appearance.

FAQs

Originating in nineteenth-century France, the Rococo Revival style reinterpreted eighteenth-century Rococo design, featuring dramatic serpentine curves, cresting cartouches, and elaborate relief carvings of asymmetrical scrolls, foliage, and flowers.

These bed frames were typically crafted from dense hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany. Construction involved traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved solid wood panels, and custom timber side rails.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-chiseled relief carving details showing slight human variations, original mortise and tenon joinery, natural timber shrinkage along the panel seams, and evidence of historical hand tools on unfinished interior surfaces.

Contrast the heavy ornamental woodwork with understated crisp white or neutral linen bedding. Combine with minimal architectural lighting and modern nightstands to keep the bedroom feeling balanced and uncluttered.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Position the bed away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
