Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Chateau single bed frame dates to 1920. Constructed from wood with gesso, it displays an original painted finish in blue and white. The design incorporates a paneled headboard and footboard, fluted uprights, and carved neoclassical details including dentil mouldings and floral rosettes. The distressed surface exhibits natural wear and aging across the painted panels and carved decorations, alongside exposed timber on the side rails. The frame incorporates visible metal turn screws for easy attachment between the side rails and the headboard and footboard, standing on square tapered feet with carved detailing. It requires a drop-in base and mattress for daily use in a bedroom. The piece measures 110 cm high, 105 cm wide, and 204 cm deep. It serves as a decorative single bed frame for a guest room or principal bedroom, designed to accommodate a mattress.

FAQs

French painted furniture, spanning eras from Louis XV to the Neo-Classical period, typically features hand-painted or gessoed finishes, often with carved wooden details and subtle patination developed over centuries.

These bedframes are typically constructed from native European hardwoods such as oak, beech, or walnut, featuring carved applied wooden ornamentation and historic lead- or chalk-based paint finishes.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved detailing, original surface wear, and historic tool marks rather than modern machine fabrication.

An antique painted bed serves as a focal point in a contemporary bedroom when balanced with minimalist linens, neutral walls, and modern lighting to highlight the historic texture.

Preserve antique painted finishes by dusting gently with a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent paint flaking or wood movement.
