This wonderful reverse glass print depicts Britannia crowning the Duke of Wellington with the laurel leaves of Victory with the British lion looking on.
The Battle of Waterloo fought between the French forces commanded by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and the British, Prussian and allied forces commanded by the Duke of Wellington was one of the most significant battles of the Nineteenth Century. Napoleon's defeat ended in his exile to St. Helena and ended France's aspirations to control continental Europe. Wellington's victory ensured that Britain would no longer fear invasion and could concentrate on its Imperial ambitions.
This Regency reverse glass print in great condition and is presented in a Regency ebonised fruitwood frame. There is a tiny piece of glass missing from the bottom right hand corner.
