This eighteenth-century Dutch Baroque chest of drawers is made of oak with fruitwood inlay and a warm brown colour, finished with ornate brass handles. The bombé front features four graduated drawers decorated with floral tulip patterns and crests, positioned beneath a moulded edge top. The piece stands on claw and ball feet united by a shaped carved apron, showing historic repairs, small knocks, scratches, and marks consistent with age. Measuring 83 cm high, 88 cm wide, and 52 cm deep, this functional item provides generous storage for folded clothing or linens in a bedroom or hallway, bringing character to an English Country House interior.

Dutch bombe furniture from the 18th century is distinguished by its sweeping, convex-curved silhouette along the front and sides, often embellished with intricate floral marquetry inlays.

Craftsmen primarily utilised solid oak or walnut for the carcase, decorating the exterior with thin veneers of fruitwoods, holly, or sycamore to form floral patterns, fitted with cast brass handles.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, heavy oak drawer linings displaying natural timber shrinkage, hand-cast brass escutcheons, and hand-cut marquetry with subtle surface variation.

A marquetry chest functions as a focal statement piece in a hallway or drawing room, complemented by neutral walls and contemporary artwork to contrast its detailed ornamentation.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lift, polish periodically with high-quality beeswax, and gently dust using a soft, dry cloth.
