Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1880 Persian Serapi rug stands as a finely knotted wool and cotton floor covering in a dozar format measuring 187 cm high, 146 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. The piece displays a terracotta red field holding a large central geometric diamond medallion in soft blue and pink, alongside ivory terraced spandrels, stylized floral motifs, and a samovari border rendered in shades of green, cream, and deep blue. The antique rug exhibits an even low pile throughout, with newly secured ends and deep cleaning completed. Natural dye variations appear across the woven surface, showing minimal wear and original condition without major repairs. Suitable for placement upon a living room, study, or bedroom floor within an English country house interior.

FAQs

Serapi rugs are a distinct group of Northwest Persian carpets woven in the Heriz region during the nineteenth century. They are characterized by wide geometric borders, large central medallions, and balanced, spacious compositions with softer colour tones than standard Heriz textiles.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton foundation. Natural vegetable and plant dyes were used to create the distinct shades of madder red, indigo blue, ivory, and soft green.

Authentic pieces exhibit a supple handle, low knot density with a double-warp construction, and subtle colour variations known as abrash. The designs feature stylized geometric motifs and large-scale medallions with crisp ivory corner spandrels.

A geometric Persian rug serves as an anchoring element in both classic and contemporary interiors. It pairs effectively with natural timber flooring, neutral upholstery, and clean-lined furniture to create visual warmth and contrast.

Regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar is recommended to remove dust. Spills should be blotted immediately with a clean dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a textile specialist should be undertaken periodically.
