Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Guanyin is revered in East Asian Buddhism as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, frequently depicted with symbolic attributes and iconography. During the 19th century, cast bronze figures were produced across East Asia for domestic devotional use and for export to European collectors.

These figures were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting method, allowing intricate detail in garments, facial expressions, and surrounding halos. The cast alloy was hand-chased, finished, and chemically treated or hand-rubbed to create a dark patinated surface.

Authentic period bronzes generally exhibit subtle surface wear on raised details, natural oxidation in deeper recesses, and evidence of hand-tooling rather than modern machine finishing. The weight of the casting and the quality of detailing on the reverse also help determine age.

Small bronze objects function effectively as textural accents on bookshelves, sideboards, or desk surfaces alongside books and natural materials. Placing the piece against a contrasting light backdrop or within a dedicated display niche enhances its visual presence.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth to clean detailed areas without scratching. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or water, as these can disrupt the natural patina; a light application of microcrystalline wax can be applied to protect the metal.
