Prometheus Antiques has dated this Antique Terrier Oil Painting to the 1920s.
The painting is very competently handled and depicts what is most likely a short haired terrier which is also named as ‘Miss Barrage’ The painting is in very good condition and is signed to the lower left and dated 1920. There is little known about Henry Crowther who must have been a travelling artist who specialised in animal portraiture, particularly dogs, he was prolific and painted a large array of breeds between 1905 and 1929. The gilt frame is not the original but is of the period and has a great worn look that works very well with the piece. The whole is a fine and desirable work by this well collected artist.
