Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cold-painted bronzes refer to figures cast in bronze and decorated with unfired oil paint finishes. Produced predominantly in Vienna during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these items are renowned for their detailed execution and vibrant polychrome surface treatment.

These sculptures were cast using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods. Once cleaned and chased, artists applied multiple layers of oil-based enamel paint directly to the cold metal surface without firing, allowing for realistic texturing.

Authentic pieces from the Bergman foundry typically feature crisp casting details and often display the foundry marka letter B placed inside a vase shapealongside numerical model references stamped into the underside of the base or figure.

Small cold-painted bronze figures function effectively as accent pieces on dark wood bookshelves, mahogany mantelpieces, or structured office desks, adding historical texture and botanical or zoological interest to modern study spaces.

To preserve the original paint layer, dust the object gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush. Avoid water, liquid cleaners, chemical solvents, or aggressive rubbing, as the unfired pigment layer can easily be stripped or damaged.
