Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Sideboards from this period frequently incorporate rich burr walnut veneers displaying distinctive swirled grain patterns. Design features typically include curved cabriole legs, carved detailing along the aprons or knees, and low rear galleries along the top surface.

High-quality sideboards were built using solid hardwood frames topped with decorative burr walnut or mahogany veneers. Drawers were fitted with hand-cut dovetail joints, solid wood linings, and original brass or timber handles.

Authentic pieces often feature stamped metal maker badges inside drawers, stencilled lettering on rear backboards, or stamped marks directly into cabinet door edges. Look for precise hand-carving, dovetail drawer joinery, and matching grain patterns across door panels.

Anchor the sideboard against a neutral or dark backdrop to highlight the warmth of the walnut grain. Pair the piece with modern framed artwork hung directly above the low gallery, alongside minimal ceramic decorative objects.

Apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain twice a year to nourish the wood and protect the veneer. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, shrinkage, or fading of the timber colour.
