Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian campaign desk adopts a practical kneehole pedestal layout suitable for a gentleman's library or study today. Constructed from solid teak with a warm brown finish, the three-part sectional structure includes a folding green leather top with a tooled border. Solid brass flush rectangular handles sit on every drawer face across the twin pedestals, accompanied by visible key escutcheons. The modular furniture measures 75 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 85 cm deep, providing a substantial workspace that polishes all sides for freestanding placement in a home office. The pedestal configuration contains eight drawers fitted with original locking mechanisms and keys, designed for secure storage. The split writing surface enables folding for transport, reflecting the campaign style designed for military portability. Placed centrally in a study, the desk provides a functional writing station while maintaining historical character through its exposed timber grain and utilitarian hardware. The kneehole opening measures 72 cm in height and 52 cm in width, accommodating standard seating arrangements for daily administrative tasks.

FAQs

A military campaign desk is a piece of portable furniture designed to be dismantled into smaller sections for transport by British military officers during travel and military campaigns in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Campaign furniture was primarily crafted from dense, durable hardwoods such as teak, mahogany, or camphorwood, and fitted with flush-mounted brass hardware to withstand frequent transit.

Authentic pieces feature sectional modular construction, recessed brass flush handles, flush brass corner straps, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and occasionally carrying handles on the side pedestals.

A campaign desk serves as a functional focal point in a home office or study, pairing well with contemporary leather seating, neutral wall tones, and muted brass lighting accessories.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain; treat the inset leather surface with a specialized leather balm to preserve flexibility and prevent cracking.
