Description

When we were approached by the previous owners of this Victorian mahogany pedestal desk (circa 1860), it was immediately clear that it possessed the qualities we value in antique furniture. Although worn from years of use, the desk remained structurally sound, retained an untouched original surface, and still featured the majority of its original locks and knobs. Its balanced proportions further confirmed its potential. Our specialist team—comprising a restorer, locksmith, woodturner, and polisher—has carefully and sensitively brought the piece back to life. The desk includes dummy drawers on the reverse, mirroring the front and allowing it to be positioned centrally within a room. It also separates into three sections for easier transport. After more than 150 years of use, the writing surface required replacement. We commissioned a new high quality leather hide, which was traditionally laid, hand coloured, and finished with decorative tooling and gold leaf. This fine pedestal desk has now been thoughtfully restored and is ready to be used and appreciated for many years to come.
