Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Anglo-Burmese furniture from the late 19th century combines European functional forms, such as sideboards and cabinets, with intricate native carving traditions. Typically crafted from indigenous hardwoods like padauk or teak, these pieces feature dense, high-relief floral motifs, pierced fretwork, and mythological figures or animal motifs.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using padauk or teak hardwood, favoured for its strength, dense grain structure, and rich reddish-brown tone. Artisans employed hand-carving techniques including deep relief work, openwork pierced fretwork, and joinery constructed to withstand varying humidity levels.

Authentic late 19th-century pieces display hand-carved details with subtle tool variations, dark natural oxidation in deep recesses, and substantial weight due to dense tropical hardwoods. Structural elements like hand-cut joinery behind the complex surface decoration further indicate period authenticity.

Position the cabinet as a statement anchor piece in an entryway or living room, balancing its dense texture against neutral walls and clean-lined contemporary furnishings. Minimalist decorative objects placed on the top surface allow the intricate relief carving and gallery back to remain the focal point.

Dust the intricate pierced carving regularly using a soft, clean brush or a vacuum attachment fitted with a soft brush head. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the timbers moisture balance, and avoid placing the item near direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
