Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meiji period bronze metalwork (18681912) is recognised for technical precision, realism, and expressive surface texturing. Craftsmen transitioned from sword-making to decorative arts, producing cast bronze figures and okimono depicting animals and nature with detailed chasing.

These sculptures were typically cast in copper alloy or bronze using the lost-wax (cire perdue) process. Post-casting details were refined using hand-chasing tools, followed by chemical patination to achieve deep brown, reddish, or darkened surface tones.

Authentic pieces feature precise hand-finished detail, substantial weight relative to size, and natural surface patination showing age. Look for crisp surface chasing around fur or features, and check for artist signatures or foundry marks on the underside.

Position the sculpture as a tactile accent on a stack of art books, a mantlepiece, or an office desk. Its warm patina and naturalistic form complement dark wood furniture, leather-bound books, and minimalist shelving.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or lint-free microfibre cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners, polish, or abrasive chemicals that can strip the natural patina, and occasionally apply a thin coat of microcrystalline wax to protect the metal.
