Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mahogany buffet stands in a warm brown timber finish, comprising a three-door lower cupboard with panelled doors and fluted pilasters, a working top supported by four carved and turned columns, and a raised backrest featuring triple mirrors beneath an arched central glass. The timber displays rich grain patterns across the heavy plinth base and cupboard fronts. Practical dimensions of 176 cm high, 160 cm wide and 52 cm deep provide substantial storage capacity and surface area across the main shelf and interior shelving concealed behind the doors. This imposing piece suits a traditional dining room, country house hallway or principal living space to store tableware, display decorative objects or serve food during gatherings.

FAQs

Victorian mahogany buffets typically feature rich timber finishes, tiered shelving for serving, integrated mirrors, and enclosed lower cabinetry used for storing tableware in 19th-century dining rooms.

These pieces were constructed primarily from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over pine or oak framing, utilising hand-cut dovetail joints, brass fittings, and silvered glass mirrors.

Authentic pieces display hand-turned support columns, period-correct joinery such as slightly uneven dovetails, original brass locks, and natural age-related oxidation on unexposed timber surfaces.

Position the buffet as a focal storage feature in a dining space or hallway, pairing the dark timber with neutral wall tones, contemporary ceramics, or minimalist glass objects to balance the proportion.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth, apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain, and maintain a consistent climate away from direct sunlight or heating elements.
