French antique (1920s) bronze sculpture of a nude female faun or satyr reclining on a circular vine covered trellis by George Omerth (1895-1925). Marble base. Signed ‘G. Omerth’ on the base with the letter ‘t’ missing. 25cm high x 16.5cm wide x 9.7cm deep, 2.3kg. Very good condition, some marks on marble base. The light areas in the photos are due the artificial light and/or flash - there is no excessive wear on the statue.Georges Omerth was born in 1895 in a small town in the south of France. He showed an early interest in art, and at the age of just eighteen he began studying sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1919 he exhibited his first work, a bust of his friend Maurice Bourgeois, at the Salon d’Automne. Omerth’s art was heavily influenced by the Art Deco movement, which was popular at that time.
