Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Gothic Revival oak cupboard, sideboard stands 92 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. The dark brown timber surfaces receive a rich, deep finish that highlights the heavy grain and extensive decoration. Highly detailed high-relief carvings adorn the structure, incorporating elaborate foliate scrollwork, vines, and dramatic mask faces including the green man across the two doors and drawer fronts. Carved moulding frames the overhanging top edge and runs along the lower base, complementing the ornamental panels. Practical storage is provided by two drawers positioned above a shelved cupboard enclosed behind the twin doors. Positioned in a hallway, dining room, or living space, this compact antique unit serves as a functional display surface and enclosed cabinet for tableware, linens, or everyday items. The sturdy timber construction suits domestic spaces seeking a traditional Gothic aesthetic.

FAQs

Gothic Revival furniture features architectural elements inspired by medieval design, including lancet arches, heraldic motifs, heavy foliate carving, and dark solid hardwoods such as oak.

These cupboards were typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak, utilising traditional joinery techniques like hand-cut dovetails, wooden pegs, and mortise and tenon joints.

Authentic period carving shows subtle hand-tool marks, varying depths of cut, and natural softening or smooth wear on high points caused by decades of handling and polishing.

Balance the visual weight of carved oak by placing it against neutral or painted wood-panelled walls, contrasting the dark timber with minimalist ceramics or contemporary art above the unit.

Dust deeply carved relief panels using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the timber and maintain its patination.
