Description

An exceptional late 19th-century oil painting on canvas by the well-known British sporting artist Philip Henry Rideout (1850–1920), dating to circa 1892. This finely executed work depicts a dynamic English fox hunt in full motion, with mounted riders in traditional red coats galloping across open countryside, accompanied by a lively pack of hounds.

Rideout was celebrated for his ability to capture movement, anatomy, and atmosphere, and this composition exemplifies his skill. The horses are rendered with energy and accuracy, while the sweeping landscape and soft, muted sky provide depth and balance to the scene. The painting conveys both the excitement and tradition of late Victorian field sports.
