Furniture from the George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a refined transition from heavy Palladian styles to more elegant, neoclassical designs influenced by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

These pieces typically utilised native timbers such as oak for internal carcases and drawer linings, overlaid with highly figured decorative veneers like burr yew or mahogany. Construction involved hand-cut dovetail joints and traditional brass loop handles with backplates.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetails on the drawer sides, the presence of oak secondary timbers, historical tool marks, hand-beveled drawer edges, and natural patination and oxidisation of the timber and brassware over centuries.

A period chest of drawers adds textural warmth and historical contrast to contemporary spaces. It can be positioned as a focal point in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, pairing effectively with minimalist decor to highlight its intricate wood grain.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting and veneer lifting. Apply microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface, and avoid using silicone-based commercial polishes.
