Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Lancashire chest is a distinct form of regional English storage furniture originating in northern England during the 18th century. Typically wider and lower than a standard chest of drawers, it often features a layout of multiple small and wide drawers, occasionally evolving from earlier mule chest designs.

Primary woods during the George III period included dense West Indian mahogany, native oak, and walnut. Secondary timbers for drawer linings and carcases usually consisted of pine or oak, fitted with cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn backboards with irregular tool marks, natural shrinkage marks in the timber, and original cast brass hardware showing historical patination.

A large low dresser or chest works exceptionally well as a statement sideboard in an entryway, dining room, or living space. Positioning modern artwork or a large mirror directly above the piece creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and strong heat sources to prevent timber cracking and wood movement.
